Daniel Herman Mobley

Suspenders and a cigar are the things most mentioned about Daniel Herman Mobley who passed away November 7, 2020.



Born May 22, 1941 Dan was a true outdoorsman, growing up on the OgeecheeRiver along with his cousins, he learned the river from his grandfather.???? He spent all of his weekends on that river until he met and married Virginia Little Mobley.?? The proud father of three daughters who grew up feeling his love and learning that family is a team and 'we are in this together'.?? Dan took the time to teach each daughter, granddaughter and great granddaughter a love of reading, be it a label, a book or Google, as well as his love of outdoor.



A banker by schooling he became a landscape designer in the Atlanta area until the death of his father-in-law. He stepped into the family business of Oglethorpe Marble & Granite almost 40 years ago and never left. He cherished the opportunity to talk with customers learning their stories and helping them honor their loved ones.?? His craftsmanship is seen from River Street to the smallest family cemeteries.



Dan gave 13 years responding to disasters for the American Red Cross. He responded to over 400 local emergencies as well as state and national disasters including hurricanes Hugo, Andrew, and Katrina, The World Trade Center, and Savannah Sugar Refinery.?? He was the recipient of the American Red Cross Irving W. Drought Service Award in 2000.?? He was an organizing member of Chatham County Emergency Response Team. Known for his calm, steadfast response to any emergency, Dan trained hundreds to be responders peppered with his honest dry wit.



Now a communicate of the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist, he joined the Catholic faith on Christmas Eve in 1963.???? His faith led him to be a leader in establishing several rural churches in Georgia???? On two occasions answering the call that began with a shotgun aimed at his family and ending with a church in place of the gun. He quietly lived his faith.



He leaves in this world his wife of 58 years, three daughters Marjorie Briscoe (Charles) of MonroeGA, Susan Dewberry (Jim) of AtlantaGA, Laura Mathis (Kyle) of Perry GA; four granddaughters, Sarah Snoddy (Zack) of Monroe GA,?? Kate Vandeford (Andy ) of Snowmass Village, CO, Gloria Briscoe of Monroe, GA, Natalie Briscoe of Monroe, GA and great granddaughters, Emma and Lillie Snoddy of Monroe GA.?? He also leaves a host of family members with whom he shares wonderful memories of growing up in a large family including a brother, sister, many aunts and uncles and lots of cousins.



To honor his love of the outdoors consider a donation to Friends of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites.



The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 Thursday morning, November 12, 2020, at the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist conducted by the Reverend J. Gerard Schreck. Interment will be in Bonaventure Cemetery conducted by the Reverend Joseph A. Smith and the Reverend Dr. Dewain E. Smith.
