Daniel 'Dan' Herman Hess, 72, of Savannah, GA, died Tuesday afternoon, August 18th, 2020, at his home. He recently celebrated 24 years together with his companion, Alison Meehan Maruca.
Dan was born on January 23rd, 1948 in York, PA to Norman A. Hess and Margaret S. Atland Hess. He had four siblings, Adonna J. Hess, Randy L. Hess, and Jamie L. Hess, and the late Ronnie N. Hess. Dan also had a stepmother, Patricia A. Hess.
Dan served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, worked as a mechanical maintenance supervisor, and worked for Voith Hydropower Company, for whom he traveled to Egypt and Argentina. Before retirement, he was employed at Oglethorpe Power Corporation in Georgia. He enjoyed custom carpentry, woodworking, traveling, and living by the beach.
Dan is survived by a daughter, Melissa Ann Young (Wade T.), a son, Steven Scott Hess (Lori K.), two grandchildren, Adam Mitchell Young and Amanda Marie Young, and his siblings Adonna, Randy, and Jamie.
With concern for the safety and health of Dan's friends, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
