Cw4 Army (Ret.)

d. June 23, 2018

CW4 Tad Evans, United States Army (Ret.), 89, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Eleonore Evans, died Saturday afternoon, June 23, 2018, at his home with his wife by his side, after a courageous battle with lymphoma.

Born in Chauncey, Dodge County, Georgia, on August 23, 1928, he was a son of the late Mitchell Griffin Evans and the late Eula Dennie Evans. Mr. Evans served his country with a stellar career in the United States Army for 28 years, followed by 14 years in civil service. During his military career, he served tours in Korea, Vietnam, Turkey, West Germany, and many posts in the United States. He was highly decorated in the Army, including a Bronze Star for his work in Korea, and three Meritorious Service Medals for his work in nuclear weapons in West Germany. After his retirement, Mr. Evans began a new career writing genealogical reference books, and published over 200. He is considered one of the leading genealogists in Georgia, and his books are found in libraries nationwide.

He was the luckiest man in the world, because he was able to spend 68 years with the love of his life, Eleonore 'Ellie' Evans, who survives him along with two daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Bruce Kilbourne and Jacqueline and James Gallagher; two grandchildren, Michelle Gallagher Bryant and her husband, Drew Bryant, and James Michael Gallagher, Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Peyton Eleonore Bryant and Isabella Paige Bryant, and his beloved cat, Lillian.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:30 Wednesday morning at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.

The funeral service, with full military honors, will be held at 12 noon Wednesday at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery.
