Craig Pearce Caywood, 66, of Savannah, Georgia, made his transition to Spirit on Wednesday morning, November 26, 2014, at Bryan County Health and Rehabilitation Center and under the care of Hospice Savannah.



Born in Dayton, Ohio, on September 29, 1948, he was a son of the late Ralph Harlan Caywood and the late Mary Magdaline Jollay Caywood. Mr. Caywood attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, where he received a Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree in Political Science. He worked on his Ph.D. at The American University in Washington DC. While they were students at Ohio University, he met Jean Ann Brehm of Zanesville, Ohio, and they were married in the Helen Mauck Galbreath Memorial Chapel on the campus. They celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on September 7 of this year.



Craig worked for 23 years in marketing and finance at Bell Atlantic/Verizon Communications in the Washington DC area where the family lived for 35 years. Prior to that time, he worked for the National League of Cities.



He was past president of Sterling (Virginia) Elementary PTA, an active Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader for many years, and a volunteer for Project Graduation at Park View High School. He attended Belmont United Methodist Church in Dayton, Ohio, and then became a member of Unity of Fairfax (Virginia) and Unity of Savannah.



An avid reader of all types of books throughout his life, he had a special interest in history and historical fiction. His hobbies also included making and collecting miniature ships, planes, and cars, especially Mustangs. He loved to golf and most recently belonged to the Sterling Links Golf Course in Richmond Hill, Georgia.



In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Keirston Ann-Michelle Caywood; his brothers, Kenneth Caywood and Norman Caywood, and his half-sister, Dorothy Warrell and her husband, Edward.



Surviving are his wife, Jean Ann Brehm Caywood of Savannah, Georgia; two sons, Stephen Warren Caywood of Savannah, Georgia, and Morgan Ryan Caywood and his wife, Madeline, of Wake Forest, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Andrew Pearce Caywood, Alexander Ryan Caywood, and Kylie Ellen-Aleece Caywood, all of Wake Forest, North Carolina; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Caywood of Houston, Texas, and a number of nieces and nephews.



The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Wednesday at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.



The funeral service will be held at 7 o'clock Wednesday evening in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend J. Dale Worley. Interment will be at 11 o'clock Saturday morning in Sterling Cemetery in Sterling, Virginia, conducted by The Reverend Jane L. St. John.



The family wishes to give special thanks to the physicians, nurses, and staff at Summit Cancer Care, the Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute, Hospice Savannah, and Bryan County Health and Rehabilitation Center.



In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that remembrances be made to Hospice Savannah ' Post Office Box #13190, Savannah, Georgia 31416-0190, or to Savannah State University in memory of Craig Caywood.
