SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Colonel Hobert Lee Kiger, U. S. Air Force (Ret.), 86, of Savannah, Georgia, husband of Kathryn "Tina" Brooker Kiger, died Wednesday morning, September 16, 2009, at his home.
Born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, he was a son of the late John Irvin Kiger and the late Callie Lee Draughn Kiger. Colonel Kiger was a member of White Bluff United Methodist Church. He retired after thirty years of service from the United States Air Force as a Colonel. During his military career he served in Washington for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, in Hawaii as Director of War Games, the CINPAC Fleet and then the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) in Colorado.  After retirement from the Air Force Colonel Kiger was a real estate broker for thirty years. He was a volunteer for St. Joseph's Hospital for fourteen years and prepared income taxes for senior citizens for five years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gary Hobert Kiger; two sisters, Irene Tucker and Ruth Evelyn Velek, and four brothers, Omar D. Kiger, Hugh C. Kiger, Worth D. Kiger and Howard G. Kiger.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Kathryn "Tina" Brooker Kiger of Savannah, Georgia; one daughter, Cynthia Dru Collard and her husband, Brad, of Savannah, Georgia; two sons, John Greenwaide and his wife, Sandra, of Savannah, Georgia, and James "Jim" Lee Kiger and his wife, Annaclair, of Columbia, South Carolina; one daughter-in-law, Deborah Logan of Logan, Utah; six grandchildren, Candace Flottmann and her husband, Jay, Phillip Collard and his wife, Jessica, Stacie Shidemantle and her husband, Tim, Amy Chalmers and her husband, Travis, Sara Ann Greenwaide and Elizabeth Kiger; five great-grandchildren, and one brother, John Kiger and his wife, Marie, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Thursday evening at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The memorial service, with full military honors, will be held at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon in White Bluff United Methodist Church conducted by The Reverend John A. Haney. Interment will be private.
