CMSgt Thomas 'Tom' Alex Cooper, U. S. Air Force (Ret.), 88, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Sarah McDonald Cooper, died with his wife at his side on Thursday morning, December 7, 2017, at Memorial University Medical Center from injuries sustained from a fall.



Born in Andrews, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Thomas Alex Cooper, Sr., and the late Fannie Browder Cooper. Tom was a faithful member of White Bluff United Methodist Church for over 40 years, where he was a member of the Wayfarers Sunday School Class. At White Bluff, he was a former member and chairperson of Church Council, the Trustees, the Staff Parish Relations Committee, the Finance Committee, the Stewardship Committee and the Endowment Committee. Tom retired as a Chief Master Sergeant after serving 20 plus years in the United States Air Force. After military retirement he was Customer Service Manager for Gulfstream for 25 years. Tom and two other Gulfstream retirees founded the Gulfstream Retiree Club. He loved anything to do with flying and after his retirement he and Sarah traveled extensively. Tom and Sarah loved ballroom dancing and he was a member and former president of the Penguin Club. He was very comfortable in public speaking and taught Dale Carnegie courses. Tom had a deep devotion and love for God, his church, his family, and his friends.



In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Anthony Cooper; an infant brother and sister; three sisters, Virginia Shealy, Doris Elliott and Fannie Belle Gaskins, and a step-son, Mark Alan White.



Surviving are his wife of more than 31 years, Sarah McDonald Cooper; two sons, Donald B. Cooper and his wife, Debbi, of Courtland, Alabama, and Ronald A. Cooper and his wife, Louise, of Columbia, South Carolina; one daughter, Lydia Warren and her husband, Bill, of Keller, Georgia; three sisters, Eloise Willard of Columbia, South Carolina, Diane Harrelson and her husband, Jerry, of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and Cathy Graham and her husband, Garret of Andrews, South Carolina; one brother, Phillip Cooper and his wife, Nancy, of Florence, South Carolina; his sister-in-law, Ann M. Clark of Macon, Georgia; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews, and the mother of his children, Jeannette Cooper of Columbia, South Carolina.



The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.



The funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Monday morning at White Bluff United Methodist Church conducted by The Reverend John A. Haney and The Reverend Nathan C. Godley. Interment, with full military honors, will be in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery near Glennville.
