SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Treasured wife, mother, and "Mimau," Clare Tharin Robertson, 82, died at her Savannah home Wednesday, June 30, 2010, after a long illness.
Born Feb. 17, 1928 in Savannah to the late Claire Sipple Tharin and Robert Julian Tharin, she was married to William F. Robertson Jr. for 60 years.
The Savannah High School graduate worked at C&S Bank in Savannah and Atlanta and the First National Bank of Des Plaines in the Chicago area.
Filled with love, she easily made friends and always helped others. She loved dance and music, competing in tap and jazz competitions and guiding a fellow group of seniors to win a Georgia Senior Dance competition. Four decades after leaving Savannah for the Midwest due to her husband's job obligations, she enjoyed their return, renewing Savannah friendships and her memberships in the Garden Club of Savannah, C&S Retiree Club, TLC Club and the "Cut Rate" Alumnae Group.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, W.F. (Jody) Robertson III, of Tempe, Arizona; and daughters Amy (Gary) Mack of Algonquin, Illinois and Claire (David) Brucks, of Suwanee, Georgia as well as grandchildren Billy (Mary) Robertson, Laura (Brian) Smith, Jenny (Jeff) MacBeard, Gary (Crystal) Mack, Phillip Brucks and Rachael Brucks; and, great-grandchildren Molly Mack and Ian Robertson. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Betty Thurber of Bakersfield, California and Cynthia (Bo) Russom of Savannah as well as many loved nieces, nephews and cousins and treasured caregivers Linda Chaplin, Maggie Coogan, Isaac Chaplin and Azalia Chaplin who became like family as they helped her enjoy her final days at home. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter Suzanne, her sisters Suzanne (George - deceased) Gammell of Atlanta and Miriam Tharin of Savannah and sister-in-law, Mary (Bill - deceased) Connelly of Daytona Beach, Florida.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 o'clock Friday at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Ave.
The funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Saturday morning in the Gamble Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will be in Bonaventure Cemetery.
