Clara Trushin Segall

d. August 24, 2009

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Clara Trushin Segall, 90, passed away peacefully Monday, August 24, at her residence at Buckingham South.
She was born in Tallahassee, Florida, on February 7, 1919, eventually graduating from Florida State College for Women (University) in 1940. She taught in the Georgia public school system until she married Daniel David Segall, of Savannah in June, 1941. They resided in Savannah and were married 55 years. She worked alongside her husband in their small jewelry store (Southern Credit Jewelers) on Broughton Street from 1941 until 1965. During World War II, when her husband was drafted, Mrs. Segall operated the store alone, often working until midnight on weekends. In 1965, the couple, along with their 3 sons, opened the first Segall and Sons catalog showroom on White Bluff Road.
The company eventually operated 7 showrooms throughout Georgia. Mrs. Segall was the Secretary/Treasurer of the company for 22 years, until it was sold in 1987. During this time, she was the head bookkeeper, jewelry buyer, and oversaw the company's transition to computer-based operations in the early 80's. She was widely respected throughout the jewelry industry for her keen eye for style as well as for her shrewd buying methods. After retiring from Segall and Sons, she worked for 10 years as a volunteer in the Candler Hospital Gift Shop.
Mrs. Segall was a member of Congregation B'nai B'rith Jacob Synagogue, its Sisterhood, a lifetime member of Hadassah, B'nai B'rith Women, the Jewish Educational Alliance, a past president of the J.E.A. Women's Club, and Jewish Women International.
She was pre-deceased by her parents, Julius and Gertrude Trushin, her loving husband of 55 years, Daniel David Segall, and one brother, Theodore Martin Trushin.
She survived by her three adoring sons and daughters-in-law: Terry and Brenda (Kaufman) Segall, Robert and Mona (Grossman) Segall, and Richard and Jane (Hardy) Segall; eight grandchildren and spouses: Tara and Bret Teilhaber, Candice and Dr. Fredd Miller, Shannon and Ken Clayman, Shelley and Dr. Gary Davis III, Max Abraham Segall, Charlotte Segall, Jessica Segall, and Sarah Segall; eight great-grandchildren, Allie and Blake Teilhaber, Carly and Remy Clayman, Quinn and Walker Davis, and Ayla and Julien Miller; one sister, Florence Ginsberg Karsman, and numerous nieces and nephews. And a special thanks to all the wonderful staffs at Buckingham South, Hospice Savannah, and to her dear caregivers, Ethyl, Tammy, Linda, Frederica, and Gloria.
The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Avigdor Slatus.
The family will sit Shiva at 405 Jackson Woods Boulevard.
