Charlotte Ann Wolfe McCarthy, 90, of Thunderbolt, Georgia died August 22, 2023 with her family by her side.
Born October 8, 1932 in Savannah, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Charles Anthony Wolfe and the late Marguerita (Margaret) Sellers Wolfe. Charlotte was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Church and, later, St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church for 65 years. She attended Cathedral Day School and St. Vincent’s Academy. Charlotte and her late husband Michael McCarthy, Sr., high school sweethearts, married in April of 1953 in Savannah at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. Charlotte raised seven children and lovingly adored her nineteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren. Charlotte invested time into her community, for many years serving as a Girl Scout troop leader.
Charlotte had many hobbies including baking - her marshmallow brownies, caramel nut bars, and barbeque sauce were coveted by everyone who knew her; sewing - making clothes for her children and grandchildren; and, of course, fishing and crabbing. Charlotte and Michael loved to be on the water together, always involving fishing and crabbing. An annual highlight for Charlotte and Michael, as well as the extended McCarthy and Wolfe families, was an Easter Sunday family reunion, including a legendary Easter egg hunt, that Charlotte and Michael hosted at their home in Thunderbolt.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Charles Wolfe, Jr. and Edward Wolfe; sister, Frances Wolfe Kluck; son, Michael Francis McCarthy, Jr.; son-in-law, Gary Chambers; and great granddaughter Alana Marie Madera.
She is survived by two daughters, Julie McCarthy Chambers Pittman and her husband Tommy; Teri McCarthy Goolsby and her husband Scott; four sons, Pat McCarthy and his wife Gail, David McCarthy and his wife Fran, Tim McCarthy and his wife Janet, and Chris McCarthy and his wife Karen; her brother Donald Wolfe and his wife Melody; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
