Charles Henry Sipple, III died peacefully at home on Monday, May 31, 2021.?? Charlie, as he was known to family and friends, lived life to the fullest, enjoying a loving wife, family, and many friends.
He was??born in Savannah, Georgia on January 31, 1931 to Nora Maddox Sipple and Charles Henry Sipple, Jr.?? He had recently celebrated his 90th birthday.
A graduate of Washington and Lee University, Charlie met Sallylu Anderson Rhoad while in college.?? They were married on September12, 1952, and enjoyed 68 years together.
Charlie was a pilot in the United States Air Force, pursuing his love for flying.?? He encountered a midair collision while training in Mississippi, but survived the catastrophic event.
He returned to Savannah, Georgia in 1955 to work for the family business, Sipple's Mortuary.?? He was a communicant of St. John's Church.?? He was a member of the Savannah Golf Club, the Oglethorpe Club, and the Cotillion Club.?? He was one of the founding members of the German Heritage Society and served as its first president.?? He was a former member of the Rotary Club of Savannah, the Forest City Gun Club, the Savannah Yacht Club, and Highlands Falls Country Club.
Charlie had a passion for golf, hunting, and flying.?? He played many of the world's finest golf courses through the Georgia Seniors Golf Association and was honored to serve a term as president.?? He also hunted wild game birds in many countries and learned to fly an airplane before he could drive a car.
He leaves a loving family, his wife, Sallylu Rhoad Sipple, a son, Charles Henry Sipple, IV and his wife Mary Meade, a daughter, Linder Sipple Suthers, and her husband, John.?? He has four wonderful grandchildren, Sarah Sipple Allman and her husband, Andrew; Charles Henry Sipple, V (Chip) and his wife, Julie; Holly Suthers Gainer, and her husband, Hugh; and Daniel Allen Suthers, and his wife, Hayley.?? They all brought him great joy.?? He was blessed to have six precious great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, and two sisters, Lenora Sipple Kuhn, and Sara Mae Sipple Beacham.

There will be a graveside service in Bonaventure Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2, 2021.?? Family and friends are invited to attend.?? Members of the German Heritage Society are invited to attend as honorary pall bearers.
