Charles Ramm Holm, Jr., 84 of Midway and Savannah, Georgia and widower of Lavenia Clarke Holm, died Monday morning, January 11, 2016, at Candler Hospital.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of the late Charles Ramm Holm, Sr. and the late Ruth Carr Holm. Mr. Holm was of the Catholic faith.
He moved to Oliver, GA in 1953, where he became Treasurer of Empire Lumber Company. Mr. Holm began his Public Service career in Washington, DC in 1961 with former Congressman G. Elliot Hagan and served as Congressional Liaison Officer for the United States Department of Agriculture from 1962 to 1966. He next moved on to the Executive Office of the President where Charlie was the Congressional Liaison Officer from 1966 to 1968.
He then went into private business as owner of Publicom, Inc., a congressional lobbying firm from 1968 to 1972. From 1973 to 1977 Charlie served as the Administrative Assistant to Congressman Ronald \"Bo\" Ginn. From 1977 to 1979 he was the Executive Assistant to Chairman Ronald \"Bo\" Ginn, Subcommittee on Investigation and Review, House Public Works and Transportation Committee. Charlie then moved to the Select Committee on the Outer Continental Shelf/Committee on Merchant Marine and Fisheries from 1979 until his retirement.
In addition, Charlie was on the Board of Directors of the Congressional Staff Club for three years; Vice President of the Administrative Assistants Association, U. S. House of Representatives for two terms and also served as President of the Administrative Assistants Association as well. Charlie was a member of the Executive Committee of the Lombardi Golf and Tennis committee, which raises funds for cancer research at George University Hospital.
In Charlie\'s spare time, he enjoyed being a long time member of the Hibernian Society of Savannah, GA. He was an outstanding coach for both of his sons in Little League baseball. Charlie also served as Vice President of North Springfield Little League for many years. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and a member of The Association of the United States Army.
Surviving are two sons, Charles R. Holm, III and James Douglas Holm, Sr. and his wife, Janet; two grandsons, Christian Clarke Holm and James Douglas 'Jimmy' Holm, Jr.; one great-grandson, Ashton Cross Holm, and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Friday at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 7 o'clock Friday evening in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Joseph A. Smith. Interment will be private.
