Charles 'Charlie' Ernest Yow III, 63, of Savannah, Georgia, entered his new life on Wednesday morning, January 23, 2013, at his home and under the care of Hospice Savannah.
Born in Rockwood, Tennessee, he was a son of the late Charles Ernest Yow, Jr. and the late Alma Hughes Parrott. Charlie was of the Christian faith. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran having served as a Sergeant during the Vietnam War, where he received the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon and the Cross of Gallantry. Charlie was a construction supervisor in the Fiber Optics Division of Comcast.???? He was a motorcycle enthusiast who loved his Harley-Davidson, 'Sugafoot.' Charlie was a good friend of Bill W. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Roderick Scott 'Scotty' Yow.
Surviving are one daughter, Gidget Wray and her husband, Kenny, of Claremont, North Carolina; one son, C.J. Yow of Statesboro, Georgia; one step-daughter, Amanda Lacroix and her husband, Luc of Groton, Massachusetts; six grandchildren, Joshua Martin, Hailey Hollifield, Chloe Wray, Cooper Wray, Addie Wray and Dillon Yow; two step-grandchildren, Garrett Rousseau and Kenzie Lacroix; his grandmother, Barbara Whitley; one brother, Steve Parrott of Jacksonville, Tennessee; one niece, Leslie Benson, and one nephew, John Fowler.
The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 o'clock Saturday afternoon at Gamble Funeral Service.
A funeral service will be held at 6 o'clock Saturday evening in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service.
A funeral service will be held at 1 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at Oxford Baptist Church in Conover, North Carolina conducted by Pastor Joel A. Frye. Interment, with full military honors, will be in St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery in Claremont, North Carolina.
