SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Carolyn Bacon DeAngelis Compton, 82, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away Monday morning, February 14, 2011, at home under the care of Spanish Oaks Hospice.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Earl Bacon and the late Iris Buckner Bacon. Mrs. Compton was a member of Bible Baptist Church and was a member from birth until recently of Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a former secretary for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, and later was the executive assistant to the general manager of the Desoto Hotel, and afterwards was the Director of Classified Advertising for the Savannah Morning News and the Evening Press. Mrs. Compton was the former owner and operator of Carolyn's Tall Fashions and then retired as the Social Activities Director at the Rose of Sharon. She enjoyed traveling and was a master gardener. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son.
Surviving are her husband, Charles Willard Compton of Savannah, Georgia; five daughters, Pamela Duncan and her husband, Alan, of Greensboro, North Carolina, Debbie D. Cannon and her husband, Jimmy, of Savannah, Georgia, Mindy Hartley and her husband, Don, of Byron, Georgia, Karen D. Yaun and her husband, Dick, of Richmond Hill, Georgia, and Donna DeAngelis Williams and her husband, Phil, of Atlanta, Georgia; one brother, Earl Bacon, Jr. of Port Saint Lucie, Florida; eleven grandchildren, Heather Hughes and her husband, John, Tara Dugan and her husband, Rich, Andrew Cannon, Galvin Butler, Jessie Davis and her husband, Cliff, Morgan Butler, Daniel Shinall, Molly Duncan, Austin Shinall, Michael Shinall, and Abby Duncan; three great-grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Wednesday evening at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Thursday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Dr. Drew Corbett.  Interment will be in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park - East.
