SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Carole Adina Charney Herman, 66, of Savannah, Georgia, wife of Dr. Stephen Michael Herman, died Saturday evening, December 17, 2011, at her home after a long illness.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late William Charney and the late Alice Richman Charney. Mrs. Herman was a member of Congregation Agudath Achim for many years where she was also a member of the Sisterhood. She was a lifetime member of Hadassah. Mrs. Herman earned her B.A. from Syracuse University and her M.A. in English Literature from Columbia University. Before marriage, she taught in the New York City Public School System. Mrs. Herman was a partner with her husband in the development, sales and management of Ravenwood Townhomes in Hinesville. She was office manager for her husband's practice. Mrs. Herman was an avid reader who was also totally invested in caring for her husband, children and grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband of 40 years, Dr. Stephen Michael Herman of Savannah, Georgia; two daughters, Amy Elizabeth Herman Comander, M.D. and her husband, Jason Ian Comander, M.D., PhD of Brookline, Massachusetts, and Nancy Alexandra Hait, PhD, and her husband, Michael Hait, M.D., of Easton, Massachusetts; one brother, David L. Charney, M.D. of Alexandria, Virginia, and four grandchildren, Lily Alice Comander, David William Comander, Emma Rose Hait and Annalise Sophia Hait.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2 P.M. Monday, December 19, 2011, at Bonaventure Cemetery conducted by Rabbi Kenneth R. Leitner.
The family will sit Shiva at their home through December 25th.
