SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Carmel Dillon Rovolis, 70, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away surrounded by family and friends Monday afternoon, March 1, 2010, at Candler Hospital.
She was born in Savannah, Georgia and attended Blessed Sacrament School and graduated from St. Vincent's Academy. Formerly employed by Chatham County Courthouse and Tag Office. She was a devout, faith-filled Catholic and communicant of St. James Catholic Church. She enjoyed participating in the Adoration Chapel, Lumin Christi at St. James. Her strong faith and family strengthened her as she was preceded in death by her son, George R. "Bubba" Rovolis, Jr., her parents, James J. and Mary Graham Dillon, her brother Jimmy and sister Helen Dillon.
Surviving are her loving children, Colleen Humphries and Freddie, James Rovolis and Cathy; her brother Judge Lawrence G. Dillon and Gerry. She was the beloved and adored "Nana" to her grandchildren, Holly and Mary Humphries; Harper Rovolis; Haley, Braden and Clayton Osburn: her longtime friend and companion Larry Hurt. Carmel was known to many of her children's friends as "Mama".
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Thursday at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue, with the Rosary service being held at 7 o'clock in the funeral home chapel.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon in St. James Catholic Church conducted by The Reverend Mark J. Ross. Interment will be in Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
