Captain James Albert Van Fossan, US Army Retired, 80, of Savannah, passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023 in Savannah.
Born in Evansville, Indiana, Jim was the son of the late Lowell Albert Van Fossan and the late Marguerite Thelma Mullis Van Fossan. He was a graduate of William Carey College in Hattiesburg, MS, and a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. After his military service, he worked for many years in automotive service and repair. He was a longtime employee of Fuller Oldsmobile and Backus Cadillac-Pontiac where he was the Service Manager.
Jim was a member of Roger Lacey Lodge #722, the Scottish Rites, and Alee Shriners. He was a past president of the Savannah Volunteer Guard and a member of the Savannah Moose Lodge 1550. He was a member of White Bluff Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Luckey Van Fossan and sister-in-law Lynn Reed Luckey.
Surviving are his children, Jamie Lynne Benfield (Ken), Ronda V. Spitzer (Mark), and Janan A. Van Fossan (Lisa); grandchildren, Kaitlyn Benfield, Miranda Spitzer, Ian Van Fossan (Treb) , Jeryl Van Fossan (Kelsey), and Rhiana Hoover (Bradley); great-granddaughters, Raelynn Joy Miller and Evangeline Lakely Van Fossan; brother-in-law, Warren Lloyd Luckey; and nephew, Cole Luckey (Kerri).
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at White Bluff Methodist Church, 11911 White Bluff Rd, Savannah, GA 31419 with full military honors and Rev. Dr. Barry Giddens officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his church: White Bluff Methodist.
