Byron Winn Davis, 89, of Savannah, Georgia, and husband of Janis Helmken Davis, died Monday morning, July 27, 2020, at Spanish Oaks Hospice.
Born in Copperhill, Tennessee, he was a son of the late Walter Winn Davis and the late Frankie Hood Davis Light. Mr. Davis was a United States Air Force veteran. He was a longtime member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher for many years and was a member of the Saints and Sinners Sunday School class. Mr. Davis retired as a credit reporter for Dun & Bradstreet. He played college basketball and also enjoyed golf, wrestling and football.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Dennis Ayala.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Janis Helmken Davis; one daughter, Kathleen Ayala; two sons, Michael Davis and Stephen Davis; three grandchildren, Christa Smith, Jason Ayala and Cory Ayala; two great-grandchildren, Kairi Wise and Logan Wise, and one brother, Edwin Light.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 o'clock Friday evening, July 31, 2020, at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 7 o'clock Friday evening, July 31, 2020, in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by the Reverend Peter J. Hartmann. Private interment will be in Bonaventure Cemetery.
