SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Byrdell "Byrd" Baker Martin, 59, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away Wednesday afternoon, September 16, 2009, at Candler Hospital.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Baker and the late Adell West Baker. Byrdell was a member of St. Paul CME church and worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for over a year after graduating from Johnson High School, class of 1968. She was retired from Southern Bell which is now AT&T as a operator for over twenty years. Byrdell is preceded in death by two brothers, Benny Baker and Allen Baker.
Surviving are one daughter, Jaquelyn Denise Newton and her husband, Jonathan, of Savannah, Georgia; three sons, Isaac Martin III, Michael Cordell Martin and Randy Antonio Martin, all of Savannah, Georgia: her former husband, Isaac Martin, Jr., of Savannah, Georgia; one sister, Elsie Legree, of Englewood, California; fourteen grandchildren, Janise, Jakera, Jayda, Jaquari, Nyonna, Raquez, Jaquan, Jaloni, Kayla, Cordell, Jayden, Jabre', Marc, Kaytln; four nieces, Deshay, Wendy, Donna, Dena, and three nephews, Nathaniel, Darnell and Wendell; two uncles, Leroy and Charles West, both of Savannah, Georgia; several grandnieces and grandnephews, and a dear close friend of the family, Contina Renee??'' Mortimer.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Tuesday evening at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 12 noon Wednesday afternoon in St. Paul CME Church (Barnard Street) conducted by The Reverend Da' Heri R. Thurmond.  Interment will be in Woodville Cemetery.
