Brian Anthony McCarthy, 61, of Ellabell, Georgia, passed away Friday morning, February 25, 2022, at St. Joseph's Hospital.



Brian was born September 4, 1960 in Savannah to the late Thomas (Tom) Nugent McCarthy and Claire Cody McCarthy. He was a 1978 graduate of Sol C. Johnson High School. Brian attended South Georgia Technical College where he studied diesel mechanics. After leaving school, he worked as a long-haul truck driver and mechanic for various companies throughout the Southeast. Brian also worked for the family business, McCarthy Inc. for many years before becoming an owner/operator of Matco Tools. At the time of his death, he was employed by Southway Crane and Rigging.



Brian was a state certified volunteer firefighter for Southside Firefighters for 12 years, serving with the Islands Fire Department. He was named Division Firefighter of the Year.



Brian was a jack of all trades, always willing to help anyone who asked for assistance. Whether it was building houses, repairing fire-damaged garages or repairing old cars, Brian was always the first to show up and the last to leave' except when there was a car show. Humble and kind, he had a special place in his heart for rescue dogs, taking in many over the years.



Brian was the best uncle to his many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He actively kept up with them and their many adventures.



He is survived by his siblings, Patty (Duane) Mulnix of Statesboro, Tom (Brenda) McCarthy of Martinez, Cody (Pam) McCarthy, Kevin (Lucia) McCarthy and Mary (Lawton) Tison of Savannah; best friend Darrell (Lisa) Lindsey; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.



The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock, Monday evening, February 28, 2022, at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.



The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock, Tuesday morning, March 1, 2022, at the graveside, Catholic Cemetery ' 1720 Wheaton Street, Savannah, conducted by the Reverend Dr. Drew Corbett.
