Brenda Elizabeth Herring-Burkhalter, 67, of Savannah, Georgia and wife of PO1 Edward 'Ed' E. Burkhalter, U. S. Navy (Ret.), died Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at her home.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Paul Thomas Herring, Sr. and the late Jean Anglin Herring. Brenda was a member of Montgomery Presbyterian Church. She worked at Beach High School and then retired after 25 years as the bookkeeper and secretary for Jenkins High School. Brenda was a former volunteer at Candler Hospital. She loved her family, friends, and her Datsun, George, who was her adopted son.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Herring DeRouen, and a brother-in-law, James DeRouen, Jr.
Surviving are her husband of 31 years, PO1 Edward 'Ed' E. Burkhalter, U. S. Navy (Ret.), of Savannah; one son, Chris Sinclair and his wife, Renee, of Savannah; one daughter, Angie Nguyen and her husband, Tuan, of Melbourne, Florida; three grandchildren, Emily Sinclair, Crystal Sinclair and Paris Nguyen, and one brother, Tommy Herring of Savannah.
The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 10 o\'clock Monday morning at Montgomery Presbyterian Church conducted by The Reverend John Ruehl. Interment will be in Hillcrest Abbey - East.
