SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Blanche Newsome Grundy, 87, of Savannah, Georgia, widow of Frederick Leigh Grundy, died Tuesday morning, June 30, 2009, at Riverview Health and Rehabilitation Center under the care of Odyssey Hospice.
Born in Jefferson County, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Reuben S. Newsome and the late Molly Lou Powell Newsome. Her parents ran a dairy and Blanche worked there as a child. Mrs. Grundy was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. She was formerly with Wachtel's on Bull Street and later with General Medical as purchasing agent for 27 years. Mrs. Grundy loved crossword puzzles and reading and was a good cook. She and Mr. Grundy were married for 44 years. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Leona "Nona" McGraw and her husband, Mutt, two other brothers-in-law, Roscoe Bragg and Gerald Weeks, and one great-granddaughter, Brittani Grissett.
Surviving are two sons, G. Keith Grundy and his wife, Mary, of Savannah, Georgia, and Sewell H. Grissett and his wife, Carolyn, of Statesboro, Georgia; four grandchildren, Jennifer Beddow and her husband, Paul, Frederick "Eric" Leigh Grundy II, Christopher P. Grissett and Angel C. Grissett; six great-grandchildren, Emma Beddow, Haley Beddow, Mitchell Grissett, Logan Grissett, Marissa Grissett and Tyler Kicklighter; two sisters, Polly Bragg of Louisville, Georgia, and Elizabeth Weeks of Wadley, Georgia; numerous nieces and nephews, and her special friends, Katherine Chisholm and Shirley Blakewood.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Wednesday at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Thursday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Richard A. Nelson. Interment will be at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon in St. Andrew's Cemetery in Darien, Georgia.
