Betty "Mimi" Floyd Ridgway, 92, of Savannah, GA passed away peacefully on April 23rd, 2024.
Betty was born on June 24, 1931 to Jenny Gibson Floyd and Henry Clayton Floyd in Savannah. She was a graduate of Commercial High School and an avid athlete throughout her youth. As one of seven children, Betty entered the workforce at the age of 12 at Leopold's Ice Cream Shop. She worked until she was 82 and her career spanned all facets of retail, including Caldwell's, The Clothes Tree and most recently J. Parker, Ltd.
Betty was known for her cooking and baking. Everywhere she went, she was sure to bring some sort of delectable treat, namely her signature pound cake or mandarin orange cake. Anyone who knew her never went hungry!
After high school she married Tom Ridgway and had two beautiful daughters, Debbie and Kim. They were the light of her life. Countless hours were spent with their dancing family from Marylin Youmans' School of Dance and Baton where Betty met some of her dearest, lifelong friends.
She loved her grandchildren, Megan and Jason with all of her heart. Upon retirement, Betty could be found spending most of her time with her grandchildren and then great-grandchildren or at any function held at Isle of Hope United Methodist Church where she was an avid member for many years.
The word "no" was not in her vocabulary. She never missed a shower, birthday, wedding, or funeral.
Betty was truly the sweetest person and angel amongst us.
We know she was welcomed into the gates of heaven by her parents and 5 of her 6 siblings: Susie Floyd Rabalais, Margie Floyd Dunn, Henry Floyd, Dorothy "Dot" Floyd Wiggins, and Clarence Russell "Buddy" Floyd. She is survived by her daughters, Debbie Ridgway and Kim Bennett (Lawrence); two grandchildren, Megan Cox Alstad (Jason) and Jason Cox (Logan); four great-grandchildren, Case Cox, Ava, Cordelia and Vivian Alstad; brother, Ronnie Floyd (Barbara), brother-in-law, Billy Ridgway (Mabel) and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Thursday, April 25th at Gamble Funeral Service from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a graveside service at Forest Lawn Cemetery on Friday, April 26th at 2 p.m.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the caring staff of The Oaks at Savannah as well as Hospice Savannah.
