Bette Eileen Williams Jennings, 90, died Monday, April 6. She was born on May 4, 1924 in Llandovery, Wales, Great Britain. With her parents, she immigrated to the United States in 1926, eventually settling in New York City. During the Great Depression, she lived with her Aunt Em in Dedham, Iowa, before returning to New York. After high school, she worked in various banks in New York. On April 12, 1954, she married the love of her life, Captain Harry E. Jennings, a union which endured for almost 55 years, until his death in April, 2009. Her only child, Richard Christmas Elliot (Skip) Jennings was born January 3, 1956. Shortly after his birth, they moved to Floral Park, New York, where she made some of the best friends of her life. The family moved to Savannah, Georgia, in 1970, and lived the rest of her life there. Before her retirement she worked for a number of years at The Mulberry Tree. In her later years, she was primarily focused on caring for her husband and helping care for her granddaughters, Nolan and Alex, whom she adored.



Mrs. Jennings is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Skip and Stacy Jennings, and her granddaughters, Margaret Nolan Jennings and Alexandra Price Jennings.



A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 11, 2015, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 1 West Macon Street, Savannah, Georgia. A reception at the Greene- Meldrim House will follow. Burial will be private.

The family would like to thank the resident assistants and other care givers at Habersham House, River's Edge and Azalealand for their kind and generous care of Bette over the past eight years and to the wonderful caretakers from Hospice Savannah for their assistance over the past six months.
