SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Beryl Benjamin Bernstein, 98, of Savannah, Georgia, widower of Miriam Jacobs Bernstein, died Saturday afternoon, April 10, 2010, at Candler Hospital.
Mr. Bernstein was born February 25, 1912, in Savannah, Georgia, to the late Samuel Bernstein and the late Annye Goldstein Bernstein. He was a member of Congregation Bnai Brith Jacob and was a proud United States Army Veteran, having served his country during World War II. Mr. Bernstein owned and operated Bernstein's Restaurant Supplies at 223 West Congress Street in Savannah for many years. He was a member Solomon's Lodge #1 A. & F. M and was a volunteer for over fifteen years at the Veterans Clinic. In addition to his wife, Mr. Bernstein was predeceased by four siblings, Abram Bernstein, Dorothy Marcus, Lee Reichman and Deborah Kopel.
Surviving are three daughters, Joan Bernstein of Atlanta, Lynn B. Fruitticher and her husband, Evans, of Newington, and Lois B. Legg of Orlando; two sons, Samuel Bernstein of Savannah, and Robert Bernstein and his wife, Arlene Cohen, of Huntsville, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Nathan Fruitticher, Joshua Bernstein, and Rachael Bernstein; one great-granddaughter, Halie Fruitticher, and many loving nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Avigdor Slatus.
