Savannah: Dr. Bernard M. Portman, 95, died Sunday, October 15th at his home. Dr. Portman was a lifelong resident of Savannah and son of the late Mose and Minnie Portman,
Dr. Portman (Buddy) is preceded in death by his parents, his son, David Portman and a step-son, Ward Karsman.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Rosalind K. Portman, daughter, Becky Portman and husband, David Wolf, step-daughter, Stacy Sullivan, two granddaughters, Janna Sullivan and Leah Wolf and his sister, Ann Strother.
Dr. Portman was a founding partner of Savannah Pediatrics. He retired in 2008 after 50 years of caring for generations of families in the Savannah community. He loved fishing, playing tennis and racquetball, and spending as much time as possible at Tybee Island with his family and friends. His faith was strong, and he was a longtime member of the Bnai Brith Jacob Synagogue. He was a US Marine Corp veteran.
He will be remembered for his warm smile, kind and generous heart, love and devotion to his friends and family, and great fishing spots.
A graveside service will be held at 11 o’clock Tuesday, October 17th at Bonaventure Cemetery with Rabbi Avigdor Slatus officiating.
