Bernard A. Hirshberg, 85, of Savannah, Georgia, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 28, 2012. He was a retired educator and school administrator with the Chatham County public school system. He was a graduate of the University of Michigan and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a lover of schools and learning and he touched many people ' both students and teachers ' during his years with the school system. In retirement he served as a docent at the Davenport House Museum.
He is survived by his sister Frances Wagger and her husband, Larry; his sister-in-law, Tillie Salter and several nieces and nephews, as well as great and great-great nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Ruven Barkan.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Buckingham South and Hospice Savannah for their loving care of Mr. Hirshberg.
