Barry Albert Kautz, 88 years old, passed away on February 11, 2022 at Memorial Hospital, with his loving wife Sheila at his side.
He was the son of the late Earl and Annabeth Kautz of Rock Island & Pekin, Illinois.
Barry married Sheila Cosgrove in August 1961. He was a well-loved and respected high school teacher for 30 years. He taught English, Speech, Debate and Theater at Lincoln High School, Rich East High School, and Homewood-Flossmoor High School in Flossmoor, Ill. before retiring in 1988. Barry had a B.S. degree in Speech and Theater from Bradley University and a M.A. degree from Indiana State University. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and Vice President of his Junior Class at Bradley. During the 25 years he taught at Homewood-Flossmoor High School his Speech teams won many State Championships, more than any school had ever received. Barry was also recognized by the National Principals Association. He also served 2 years in the U.S. Army.
After retiring Barry and Sheila moved to The Landings in Savannah where he was an active golfer and Bridge Player. He directed two Talent Shows and was in charge of the \"Dance Lovers\" dinner dance club for seven years. He was also part owner of his son\'s restaurant, \"Roly Poly\". He was an active member of St. James Catholic Church and served as an usher for many years.
In addition to his parents Barry was preceded in death by his brother Jim Kautz.
Barry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sheila Cosgrove Kautz,?? son, Thomas J. Kautz (Kathleen), daughter, Julie Slattery (Jim), grandchildren, Keith Kautz (Aubree) and Rebecca Wells, and great-grandchildren, Brandon, Brooklyn, Kyson, Keston, Zaden, GuMin, SunYu and many neices and nephews.
The Family will receive friends from 10-11am on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at St. James Catholic Church 8412 Whitfield Ave. Savannah, Ga. The funeral service will follow at 11am. Interment will be held privately by the family.
