Barbara Guild Gilbert, 85, of Savannah, Georgia and widow of William Claggett Gilbert, Jr., died Wednesday evening, November 18th, 2020, at her home.
Mrs. Gilbert was born December 22, 1934, in New York City to Alan Clarke Guild and Margaret Smith Guild. The family moved to Savannah in 1935 where Mrs. Gilbert lived for the rest of her life.
She was a graduate of the Pape School and Duke University, where she majored in English and was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority.
On March 2nd, 1957, after brief careers with Charles Scribner's Sons in New York City and WTOC radio in Savannah, she married W. Claggett Gilbert, Jr., who predeceased her in 1993. She attended St. John's Church, was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, the Junior League of Savannah, the Savannah Yacht Club, and was past president of the Community Children's Theatre.
Mrs. Gilbert was associated for 43 years with The Cottage Shop until her recent retirement in October.
In addition to her work at The Cottage Shop, she enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, reading, and anything involving Great Britain.
She is survived by her son, William Claggett Gilbert III, of Lilburn, GA, her daughter, Harriet Clarke Gilbert and her granddaughter, Sarah Marina Gilbert, of Charlotte, NC, and several cousins.
The funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning, November 25th, 2020, at the graveside, Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Father Gavin G. Dunbar.
