With faith gifted to us by our Lord and Father, the family and friends of Barbara Ihly Anderson celebrate her return home to heaven as she quietly died on Saturday morning, April 2, 2022. She was 86 years young and a joyful child of her Lord Jesus Christ.
Barbara was born in Beaufort, SC in 1935, the oldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. H Ihly. She graduated from Savannah High School in 1953 where she was named Miss Savannah High. In addition to winning Miss Savannah High, Barbara was named Miss Savannah the same year and won five additional beauty contests but her most-cherished title was that of being a Beloved Child of God. She was always ready to celebrate her faith with all those she met.
Barbara spent many years in Atlanta raising her three sons and working as a homemaker before returning to Savannah in 1985 where she moved back and joined her sister and brother in law as a florist at Ramelle\'s Florist. She spent her free time with her friends and family and was active in her beloved White Bluff United Methodist Church where she especially enjoyed her Contemporary Singles Sunday school class. Her laugh was contagious and when she greeted everyone with \"Hi Honey,\" you couldn\'t help but smile at her sincerity of heart.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her sister Carolyn Ihly Thomson and her beloved son Rhett Anderson.
She is survived by two devoted sons Mark Anderson of Cumming, GA and Bryan Anderson (Katy) of Chevy Chase, MD. Also surviving is her daughter-in-law Barbara Diane Anderson-Bates of Cumming, GA. Her five grandchildren, whom she loved dearly; Michele Anderson Lincks (Benjamin) of Alpharetta, GA, Ashley Anderson Levinge (Robert) of Cumming, GA and Hayes, Cole and Julia Anderson, all of Chevy Chase, MD. God also blessed Barbara with four great-grandchildren: Bryson, Blake, Lily, and Emma. In addition, there are many cousins, nieces and nephews who will always remember her kindness and love.
Barbara loved the Lord and was excited to share her faith. She spoke of joy often saying that joy meant serving Jesus, Others then Yourself. True to her words, she lived the gospel finding happiness in serving the Lord in both word and deed. Those who loved Barbara will miss her earthly presence among us but are celebrating knowing as she joins the heavenly host and her greeting will be as said in Matthew 25;23: Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things; I will make you ruler over many things. Enter now into the joy of the Lord.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 Monday afternoon April 18, 2022 at White Bluff United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Barry Giddens and Rev. John Haney. Interment will be private.
