Bama Lorine McDonald McGuire (Aunt Bama), 100 years young, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on May 23, 2014, surrounded by her family and under the care of Hospice Savannah.



She was born in Brooks County, Georgia on November 24, 1913 and was the oldest of ten children born to the late Henry Grady McDonald and the late Hollie Mae Carter McDonald.



In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Trevia Mae McDonald Crosby and Louise McDonald Harrell, and two brothers, Henry Grady McDonald, Jr. and Troy James McDonald.



As a young woman Aunt Bama dreamed of becoming a bookkeeper and came to Savannah, met and married Henry Joseph McGuire. She worked as a store clerk on Broughton Street in Savannah, eventually realized her dream of becoming a bookkeeper, retiring from McCrory's Department Store in the early 1970's.



When she retired she began taking dance lessons and eventually became a charter member of the Savannah Shag Club. She loved to dance and enjoyed good music and the company of friends and family members.



Mrs. McGuire was an active member of Robert McIntire United Methodist Church for many years, and was a member of Whitfield United Methodist Church when she passed away.



She was a member of the George K. Gannam American Legion Post 184 Auxiliary and in her time there held every office in that organization.



She is survived by two sisters, Winnie Lee McDonald Lanier and Marie McDonald Vermillion, and two brothers, Wilbur Groover McDonald and Eugene Carter McDonald.



Though 'Aunt Bama' never had any children of her own, she was a like a second mother to her many siblings and to many of her nieces and nephews.



The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Tuesday evening at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.



The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Thursday morning in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park ' East conducted by The Reverend?? Dr. G. Grover Bell.
