William (Bill) I. Goolsby, 85, of Springfield, Georgia, passed away Friday, June 17, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born September 21, 1936 in Fairfield, Texas. Bill was a devoted husband, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a member of the Savannah Primitive Baptist Church where he served as Deacon. Bill proudly served in the United States Air Force for 4 1/2 years. Afterward, he served for 35 years at Savannah Fire Department retiring as Assistant Chief of the department in 1995. After his retirement he volunteered with Southside and Clyo fire departments as well as working at Gamble Funeral Service for 20 plus years.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Linda; daughter, Debbie Vickery (Ronald); son, Scott Goolsby (Teri); brothers, Rod Claridge, Chuck and David Turner, Donald Goolsby; sister, Lori Nicley; 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.
Besides the love for his family, Bill loved fishing, playing golf, and going on golfing trips. He will be truly missed by all that knew him.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be at 7 o'clock Tuesday evening, June 21, 2022, in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by the Reverend Dr. Dewain E. Smith. Interment, with military and fire department honors, will be at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning, June 22, 2022, in Effingham Memorial Gardens in Springfield.
