Arlene 'Chuchie' Cohen Bernstein, 64, died Oct. 5 in Fayetteville, Ark., in the loving arms of her husband, Robert, and children, Sasha and Nina.
Chuchie, who was born and raised in Savannah, was preceded in death by her parents, Bessie and Louis Cohen of Savannah, and two of her three sisters, Barbara Perlmutter and Ethel Meddin. Besides her husband and two children, Chuchie is also survived by her sister Nita Kramer and brother, Davis Cohen.
Dr. Sandra Ligneel, Chuchie's best friend, was also always by her side.
Chuchie, who was once a finalist in the Miss Savannah pageant, was also a very talented guitarist and singer. At one time she was employed by the Congregation Mickve Israel as a musician under Rabbi Saul Rubin. Soon after that she opened her own business, Arlene Cohen's School of Dance, in Brooklet. Chuchie and Robert moved to Arkansas in the 1990s and raised beautiful horses.
As long as Chuchie is in the hearts and minds of her loved ones, she is still with us.
Anyone who wishes to pay their respects is welcome to visit the home of Nita Kramer, Chuchie's sister, on Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday, from 2-5 o'clock.
