Anthony “Tony” Bock, 60, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2024, at his Tybee Island, Georgia home.
He is survived by his smoking hot wife of 34 years, Jane Bock (nee Erdelen), his brother-in-law Bob Erdelen (Pam), nephew, Rob Erdelen, nephew, Todd Bock (Amanda) and niece Melissa Hagen (Alex). Tony is the son of the late Jerome Bock and George Ann Cash and stepson of Roy Cash. His late brother Todd Jerome “Jake” Bock. Great uncle to Olivia, Levi, Carter and future baby Hagen, Robbie and Kate Erdelen. Nephew of Fran Hix and George and Janet Bock of Radom, Illinois. Tony also had numerous aunts, uncles and cousins of the Wall family. Best friends, in no particular order, Herb Greenblum and Pal Sadler, Frederick and Cheryl Hodge, Derek and Lisa Maskevich, and not to mention his many fishing brothers and all the staff and regulars of his “club”, Huc-A-Poos – you know who you are.
Tony was a United States Army veteran and began training at Ft. Benning, GA, Infantry OSUT, proceeding to the 82nd Airborne at Ft. Bragg and on to Korea 1st/503, which included a rotation on the DMZ. PCS from Ft. Stewart in 1989. During his IRR status he was reactivated for Operation Desert Storm. He was released from his contract in 1993 at Ft. Stewart, GA. His “final separation” from service being 03 - Feb 2024 to Charlie Mike. While there are numerous “brothers in arms” to be acknowledged, he salutes Dave Naylor, SFC and Perry Miller, SFC whom Tony held in the highest regard, trusting them with his life. ALL THE WAY
Tony graduated Magna Cum Laude from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Technology (BSCET). Subsequently, he obtained his Professional Engineering (PE) license.
He was employed by Saussy Engineering as a Project Engineer for over 25 years. He had business relationships with both local and state professionals in the architectural and engineering community. His commitment to perfection and safety was the cornerstone of every project he undertook.
Tony found solace in the embrace of the outdoors. The Atlantic Ocean was his sacred confidante, where he attended his pelagic church alongside his dear “fishing buddies.” He fancied himself as “King of the Tybee Pier” - where no RED was safe. Whether he “broke zero” or broke “the record,” he was in his element.
We would be remiss if we failed to mention his favorite K9 Americans: Homer, Penelope and Argus – who accompanied him on his earthly Odyssey, with Ft. Pulaski being a favorite destination; (Huc-A-Poos, AKA his “club” a close second.)
A self-described “polymath,” Tony loved all things historical, particularly ancient Greece and Rome. This love of history enticed him to Savannah and the low country, bringing him to Tybee, where he met his soulmate Jane.
He will be deeply missed by all.
