On February 23, 2024, Annette Lodge Winters, 86, of, Savannah, GA passed away with her children at her side.
Annette is survived by her three children and their spouses, daughter Betsy Michelena (Juan) of Wellington, FL, sons Tom Winters (Shauna) of Greensboro, GA and Rick Winters (Liza) of Kalamazoo, MI, along with her two siblings Nancy Lodge of Chicago, IL, Tom Lodge (Marilyn) of Asheville, NC, niece Morinda Lodge La Motte of Kenmore, WA, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Her dear friend, Kay Gulick, of Savannah, GA, Kay’s daughter, Morgan, and their dog, Max, were a regular part of Annette’s life in the last 10 years.
Annette was born August 30, 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Edward Ellsworth Lodge and Frances Baskett Lodge. She attended Denison University and graduated from Ohio State University. Early in her marriage, Annette and her family lived in numerous countries in Latin America including Guatemala, Panama, Chile, Ecuador, and Venezuela where she became fluent in Spanish. After returning to the US, Annette began her career as a school teacher at Herndon Elementary in Fairfax County, VA. She taught ESL students and later taught both third and fourth grades impacting the learning and growth of hundreds of children. She loved seeing the smiles and hearing the laughter of all the children she taught. Annette also enjoyed reading, traveling, playing bridge, doting on her beloved dogs and hearing about the lives and accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Annette’s compassion, kindness, and love of all living things will be missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank the dedicated and compassionate staff of The Marshes/Oaks of Skidaway Island, Savannah, GA where Annette lived for the last ten years.
