Anna Grampes Fowler

Anna Grampes Fowler of Savannah passed away peacefully at home Saturday, April 5, 2025.She was 84.

Born November 9, 1940, in Weisskirch, Siebenburgen, Romania, she was the daughter of Martin Grampes and Anna Goeckler. A resident of Savannah since 1993, she previously lived in Asheville and Morganton, N.C.

At the age of 10, Anna immigrated to the United States with her family and settled in Sewickley,PA. She attended Quaker Valley High School and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and later worked as an Air Hostess for TWA, tending to passengers on transatlantic flights. It was on one of these long-haul flights to Europe that she met her future husband, Donald Owen Fowler. They were married for 59 years.

Anna was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Isle of Hope where she served on the Altar Guild and volunteered at the church thrift store. She was a USO (United Service Organizations) volunteer, a member of the Landings Landlovers, and an Ambassador at Thrive on Skidaway. In Asheville, she worked as a teacher’s assistant in classrooms at Ira B. Jones Elementary School, ran a small decor and furniture business, and was a member of the Junior League. She was a member of the Grace Episcopal Churches in Asheville and Morganton, N.C.

She is survived by her sons, Michael G. Fowler (Jeremy) of Alexandria, Va., and Donald Scott Fowler (Lydia) of Asheville, N.C.; granddaughter, Delia Fowler; brother-in-law, Ron Willard of Clemmons, N.C.; sister-in-law, Sandy Binder of Vero Beach, Fla.; and 12 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Owen Fowler; three sisters, Maria Murrer, Kathy Boyd and Roseana Grampes, who passed away as a toddler; a brother, Karl Binder; and sister-in- law, Marilyn Willard.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Isle of Hope, GA
