Ann Adele Lee, PhD, 74, of Savannah, Georgia and formerly of Aiken, South Carolina, died Friday morning, July 12, 2013, at Candler Hospital.
Born in Williston, South Carolina, and raised in Walterboro, South Carolina she was the daughter of the late Pinckney Hair Lee and the late Anna Sams Clarke Lee. Dr. Lee earned her masters of English, her masters of Spanish, and her doctorate in Comparative Literature from the University of South Carolina. She did a fellowship at the University of Indiana and in Salamanca, Spain. Dr. Lee retired as a full professor from the University of South Carolina, Aiken Campus. She was active in the Aiken Community Playhouse. She loved her family and her cats. Throughout her life she expressed her creativity through gardening, the theatre, painting, pottery and weaving. She enjoyed ????opera and traveling the world.
Surviving are two daughters, Dr. Christine A. Green and her husband, Thomas, of Savannah, Georgia, and Melanie L. Mathewson of Sanford, Florida, and five grandchildren, Turner Green, Thomas Green, Anna Sams Green, Arianna Mathewson and Rebecca Mathewson.
The funeral service will be held at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon, August 3, in the Williston Cemetery in Williston, South Carolina.
