Amos Timna, MD, 64, of Savannah, GA, and husband of Susan Odrezin Timna, died Friday morning, July 5th, 2013 at Memorial University Medical Center.
Dr. Timna was born in Israel on Kibbutz Maayan Tsvi on August 16th, 1948, the year Israel was born into statehood, the son of the late Gershon and Karla Timna.?? He had a prestigious military career in the elite intelligence unit of Sayeret Matkal from August 1967 ' 1970, and was drafted for the Yom Kippur War in 1973.?? He attended Medical school at the Technion University in Tel Aviv, Israel. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC.?? He began practicing at the office of Bodziner and Schneider before starting his solo practice, Amos Timna, MD, PC. His office was located at Memorial Hospital where he served on the prestigious Ethics Committee. He brought happiness to thousands of families with his deliveries of their most precious cargo.?? His patients loved him for his kind heart and individual care. His gentle way touched many lives.
After retiring, Amos dedicated his time to his community. Some of his accomplishments included volunteering for the Community Health Mission, and volunteering as a member of the Faith in Practice Team, which went to Guatemala to perform gynecological surgeries on women that have no medical care. He chaired the city wide event of 'Israel at 60,' the Jewish Film Festival, and was on the Susan G. Komen Board of Directors.?? He most recently chaired the 'Susan G Komen Race for the Cure' charity event.?? The Savannah Chapter raised almost $500,000, and was selected as the number one affiliate in the country, as well as Savannah Magazine's Best Charity event in the city.?? He is Vice President of the Savannah Jewish Federation. His awards include: Memorial Health University Medical Center Wall/Goldkrand Award, Savannah Jewish Federation Outstanding Leadership Award, and most recently, the Georgia Medical Society Health Care Heros in 2010.
Amos loved his family, friends, and his garden.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Timna; his daughter, Noa, and her husband, Jeremy Alper; his son, Etai and his wife, Jodi Timna; his stepsons, Adam and his wife, Katy Eichholz, and Jason Eichholz; his sister, Dina Inbar and her husband, Chico; his brother, Yotam and his wife, Lynn; his grandchildren, Kyla and Sylvie Alper, Sophie and Harrison Timna, and twenty-four nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 9 o'clock Sunday morning at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Ruven Barkan.
