SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Altenor Cambry, 90, of Savannah, Georgia, died Sunday afternoon, September 13, 2009, at his home under the care of Hospice Savannah ,after a long battle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.
Born in Port-au-Prince Haiti on January 24th 1919, Mr. Cambry was a hard worker, with great values, who never shied away from life responsibilities'.
He started his career in construction as an apprentice carpenter at 17. His work ethic and perseverance led him to become one of the most reputable foreman in Port-au-Prince, retiring at the age of 85.
Altenor Cambry will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, his utmost humility, and unshakable fairness. He was a free spirit, a dedicated father, grand-father and great-grand-father, who never failed to support his family. He was an incarnation of wisdom, a peaceable man who always focused on the best in life and the people around him.
Mr Cambry is survived by his 12 children, 21 grand-children and 6 great-grand-children.
It is with profound sadness and sorrow that we now have to say good bye to our best advocator. His legacy and memory will always be cherished...
The family will receive friends from 11 o'clock until 1 o'clock Saturday at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Benjamin Dallas. Interment will be in the Catholic Cemetery.
