SAVANNAH, GEORGIA -  Alma Lou James Splawn, 96, widow of Jesse P. Splawn, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2012 at Savannah Rehabilitation and Nursing Center under the care of Spanish Oaks Hospice.
Born in Simpsonville, South Carolina she was a daughter of the late Bob James and the late Alice King James. Alma was an active member of Calvary Baptist Temple for over 50 years and was a very godly woman and a devoted Christian.  She taught the Love Sunday School Class for over 42 years and was a member of the Chapel Bible Class.  Alma was the first Bible teacher for Chatham Nursing Home at the request of her pastor, Rev. John T. Tippett. As part of her ministry there, she presented a large print New International Version Bible to any resident that wanted one on behalf of Calvary. She was formerly employed by Pittsburgh Paint Company and National Engraving Company. Alma was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Surviving are her daughter, Sandra Rushing and her husband, Robert, of Guyton, Georgia; one granddaughter Kellie Lee and her husband, Rick, of Rincon, Georgia; one grandson, Brant Rushing of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; three great-grandchildren, Blake, Bryson and Brett Lee; one brother, Gene James and his wife, Jo, of Charlotte, North Carolina; one sister, Geraldine Schankweiler of Taylors, South Carolina, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 o'clock Thursday morning at Calvary Baptist Temple - 4625 Waters Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Thursday morning at Calvary Baptist Temple conducted by The Reverend Wayne Watts and The Reverend David Cleland. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family wishes to give thanks to the staff of Savannah Rehab Nursing Center and Spanish Oaks Hospice for the excellent care given to Alma.
