SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Alice Marie Stephenson McClelland, 87, of Savannah, Georgia, wife of John Harold McClelland, died Tuesday evening, September 8, 2009, at Memorial Health University Medical Center.
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, she was a daughter of the late James J. "J. J." Stephenson and the late Rose Marie Mitchell Stephenson. Mrs. McClelland was a member of Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church and was a homemaker and an artist. She began her career as a fashion artist for Rich's Department Store and continued with wood block prints and sculptures. Her favorite subject was animals.
Surviving are her husband of 61 years, John Harold McClelland of Savannah, Georgia; one daughter, Susan Marie McClelland of Savannah, Georgia; one son, John Kirk McClelland and his wife, Ellen, of Chesapeake, Virginia; one sister, Sally Sue Marshall of Columbia, South Carolina; three grandchildren, John H. McClelland II, Michael McClelland and Leslie McClelland, and one great-granddaughter, Marilyn.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 o'clock Saturday morning in Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church conducted by The Reverend Dr. John R. Wall. Interment will be private.
The family will receive friends in Liston Hall at the church after the service.
