Alfred L. Wassner Jr.,56, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2023.
Alfred was born on August 19, 1966 in Savannah, GA to Alfred L. Wassner Sr. and Sara C. Wassner. He was a member of the First Christian Church. Growing up, he was very active in Sunday school, church, and the youth groups. He also served as a junior deacon. Alfred especially enjoyed his summers at Kicklighter Christian Camp.
He graduated from Calvary Day School where he excelled in playing football. He attended Georgia Southern University where he continued playing football under the direction of Coach Erk Russell. His nickname was “The Animal.” He then began his career at UPS where he retired after working for more than 30 years. During this time, his nickname changed to “Big Al.”
Alfred was very loving and caring and was known for his outgoing personality. He was definitely one that never met a stranger. He loved to tell jokes and never failed to make people laugh. He enjoyed spending time on the water where fishing was his passion. If he was stuck indoors, watching college football was on the top of his list.
Alfred is preceded in death by his father, Alfred L. Wassner Sr., his son, Austin Wassner, and his sister, Rosemarie Wallace.
He is survived by his mother, Sara C. Wassner, his daughter, Shaylan Wassner, his sister, Susan Purser, his brothers, Richard Wassner and Billy Wassner (Lisa), and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday, March 25, 2023, from 11 until 12 o’clock with the memorial service to immediately follow at Gamble Funeral Service- 410 Stephenson Avenue.
