Alfred Goodbee Seeger passed away surrounded by family on April 8th, 2016 at the age of 77 in Savannah, Georgia due to complications following a heart attack.
Born July 20th, 1938 in New Orleans, Louisiana, he was the son of Frederick Gustav Seeger and Anna Alpha (Goodbee) Seeger. Al graduated from St. Paul's School in 1956 and attended Louisiana State University. He proudly served in the Louisiana Air National Guard, known then as the 'Coonass Militia,' from 1958 ' 68, as an F-102 fighter interceptor pilot, and graduated from Officer's Candidate School in 1962. He followed that with a great 32 year career as an international airline pilot for TWA, flying the Boeing 707, 727, 747, the McDonald-Douglas 80, and his favorite, the Lockheed Martin 1011, including two years of flying from Travis Air Force Base to Vietnam transporting troops and cargo. While based in San Francisco, he fell in love with and married Mary Benette Hilkeman on Treasure Island on November 30th, 1968. They returned to Covington, Louisiana to build a wonderful life and raise three children. Throughout his life, his hobbies included being a gentleman cattle farmer, vegetable gardener, and, since his retirement in 1997, the captain of his RV, traveling the USA with his wife of 47 years Mary Ben.
His other survivors include his beloved children, Alison Goodbee Seeger, Benjamin Carl Seeger and his wife, Jennifer (Rhea) Seeger and their two children, Isabelle Rose and Jacob Alfred, and Anna Elizabeth (Seeger) Jolly and her husband, Brian Edward Jolly; his brother, Frederick Charles Seeger, and many nieces and nephews.
Al was a very loving, kind and generous man and an all around 'good guy.' He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Paul's School (stpauls.com) or St. Joseph's Abbey (saintjosephabbey.com) in Covington, La., or St. Joseph's/Candler Heart Hospital (sjchs.org) or Hospice Savannah (hospicesavannah.org) in Savannah, Ga.
An open memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Peace Chapel on St. Paul's School campus on Saturday, April 16th at 9:30am. Burial will be private.
