Agnes Herrin Collins passed away peacefully 28 June 2022.?? Born in Howell, Georgia (Echols County) on May 2, 1932, she was the second of three daughters of William and Fannie May Herrin.?? She attended school in Statenville, Georgia graduating in 1950. She then attended South Georgia College (now South Georgia State College) in Douglas, Georgia, transferring after two years to Georgia Nurses College in Augusta Georgia where she received her training as a nurse graduating in 1954. She stayed on and started her career at Eugene Talmadge Memorial Hospital; later moving to University Hospital where she met and married William Andrew Collins in 1957.



Together they moved to Savannah in 1958 where she started at Memorial Medical Center. During her 45 plus year career there, she started as a Floor Nurse and rose to a Clinical Director, with responsibility over 5th floor, 3rd Neuro, Orthopedics, and the Operating Room.?? In 1984, she was Memorial's winner of the Dr. Thomas F. Frist Humanitarian Award for her dedication, passion, and devotion to the field of Nursing. She finished her career in the Registration Department where she started the Transport Team, retiring in 1994. Her maxim was \"never ask something of someone that you yourself would not be willing to do/accomplish\".?? In her retirement, she dedicated her life to the care of her husband, till his death in 2009. She also enjoyed mentoring others in the field of nursing and encouraged them to pursue the field and enhance their education and training. Her passion was reading the local paper, the Wall Street Journal, as well as taking care of her family and friends in need.



Preceding her death were her Father, William Henry Herrin, Mom, Fannie May Herrin, sisters, Elaine Herrin Stickley and Willie May Herrin Mackley.



Surviving is her son, William Collins, her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Collins, and her Grandson, Matthew Collins.



Funeral Services and burial will be at Cow Creek Cemetery where she will be laid to rest in the family plot next to her husband of 53 years and family relatives who preceded her.



The family would like to extend their personal appreciation to Patrina Carter, Erica Young,?? Shakeria Pringle, Kaneshia Pruitt, and Theresia Washington who cared for her in the last year of her life.?? Their exceptional care made her last days easier and allowed us to maintain her at the home that she so loved.?? The family would also like to express its thanks to all the people at Hospice Savannah who assisted in her care and comfort.
