SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Adele Curry (Dell) Waters, 76, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, May 5, 2011. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Benjamin Joseph (Joe) Waters.
A native and lifelong resident of Savannah, Dell was the daughter of the late Richard F. Curry, Sr. and the late Dovie Farley Curry. She was also preceded in death by her brother Richard F. Curry, Jr. Her remaining brother, James B. Curry, lives in Nashville, TN.
After graduating from St. Vincent's Academy, Dell married her high school sweetheart Joe and they lived happily together for 54 years. In addition to her successful and loving marriage to Joe, Dell was a role model for her children as a hardworking individual and loving parent. She worked for many years at Howard Laboratory, which later became part of Candler Medical Center, and retired after more than 35 years of service.
Dell was a loyal friend who readily shared her playful spirit with close friends and family. She was admired for her quick wit, intelligence and sense of humor. She was a passionate reader and she would fill her quiet hours with a book in hand. In addition, she was an accomplished card player which provided her many wonderful hours of competition and camaraderie. An avid sports fan, you would often find her keeping an eye on that day's favored team when you visited her at home.
Dell's fun-loving nature was contagious to everyone around her. She and Joe loved to dance, and although The Shag carried them through the decades, they were envied for their ability to keep up with the newer trends. Dell and Joe loved to travel and explore new destinations, and would often come home with stories of the people they had met along the way. She shared her love generously with her children and grandchildren and that spirit will continue on in the enduring memories of her family and friends who loved her deeply.
She will be deeply missed by her three children and their families: James J. Waters and his wife Pam of Virginia Beach, VA; two daughters, Leslie Waters Kozicki and her husband,. Keith, of Atlanta, Vicki Waters Siefker and her husband, Alan, of Savannah and three cherished grandsons, Brett Waters and his wife Julie, and Michael and Jeffrey Kozicki.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Monday evening at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service. Private interment will be in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
