Frank E. Pelican

April 22, 1943 — March 24, 2023

Frank Edward Pelican passed away peacefully at home on Friday March 24, 2023 after a short battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Frank was born on April 22, 1943 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. At the age of 3 he moved to the Bay Area in California. He attended Berkley High School and then joined the Air Force, serving for 4 years. He went on to attend San Jose State University where he graduated with a BS in Economics. After graduating, he worked for Ford Motor Company for 7 years before starting a sign and graphics business (Pelican Signs) in Santa Clara which he successfully owned for 45 years.

Frank and his wife Carolyn had 3 daughters-Molly, Megan, and Emily. They lived in the Willow Glen neighborhood in San Jose until Frank and Carolyn fell in love with the beauty of Skidaway Island while on vacation. They moved to Savannah, GA with their daughters in the summer of 1997 where he lived until he passed.

Throughout his life, Frank enjoyed tennis, golfing, playing gin, lunches with friends, and Georgia football (Go Dawgs!). Frank was a generous and social man- he made friends wherever he was. He would often reminisce of the childhood memories he made exploring and fishing with his best friend of 70 years, Stu Allhands. Throughout his adulthood Frank loved making memories with his family that he loved so much.

Frank is survived by his wife Carolyn, his beloved daughters Emily Leonard (Patrick), Megan Murphree (Tanner), Molly Drennan (Jarod), 7 grandchildren- Annabelle, Elizabeth and Bennett Leonard, Jack and William Drennan, Norah and Thomas Murphree and his very much loved sister Sheila Seale of Citrus Heights, California.

He is preceded in death by his younger brother Tom Pelican and his parents, Frank and Edyth Pelican.

He will forever be missed and loved.

Per Frank’s request, there will be no service.
