1SG James 'Jim' Richard Dyess, U. S. Army (Ret.), 66, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Sandra 'Sandy' Ann Tuminello Dyess, died Sunday morning, February 2, 2014, at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, he was a son of the late Inmon Joseph Dyess and the late Catherine Ann Curles Dyess. Jim was a communicant of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. He graduated from St. Leo University and was a retired first sergeant having served as a helicopter mechanic in the United States Army.
Surviving are his wife, Sandra 'Sandy' Ann Tuminello Dyess of Savannah; five children, Paul Dyess and his wife, Debora, Stephanie Frame and her husband, Rob, Jessica Mokren and her husband, Mark, and Pamela Balsamo and her husband, Joe, all of Savannah, and Stephanie Caldwell and her husband, Robbie, of Springfield; eleven grandchildren, Christofer Dyess, Michael Ray, Melissa Dyess, Jamie Dyess, Brennen Anderson, Laura Anderson, Natalie Anderson, Logan Balsamo, Wyatt Balsamo, Abigayle Caldwell and Graison Caldwell.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Wednesday at Gamble Funeral Service -410 Stephenson Avenue, with the Rosary service being held at 7 o'clock in the chapel.
The funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Thursday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Gabe Cummings. Interment, with full military honors, will be in Bonaventure Cemetery.
