1SG Clarence William Futch, Jr., U. S. Army (Ret.), 92, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Orie Louis Lankford Futch, died Friday evening, November 16, 2012, at the home of his daughter??surrounded by his family and under the care of Hospice Savannah.



Born in Willacoochee, Georgia, he was a son of the late Clarence William Futch, Sr. and the late Effie Akins Futch. Mr. Futch was a member of Christian Fellowship Church at Mud Creek in Lanier County, Georgia. He retired after 29 years of service as a First Sergeant in the United States Army. During his career he served in World War II and was stationed in Europe, the Lingayen Gulf in the Philippines, a tour in Korea and three tours in Vietnam. Mr. Futch was a 60 year member of Duncan F. & A.M. Lodge #234 and for many years was a member of the Hasan Shrine Temple in Albany, Georgia. 'Pap', as he was affectionately known by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was an avid fisherman, gardener and animal whisperer.



Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Orie Louis Lankford Futch; one daughter, Jill F. Whitfield and her husband, Richard, of Savannah, Georgia; two granddaughters, Lindsay W. Smith and her husband, Daniel, and Raegan W. Highsmith and her husband, Tayloe, all of Savannah, Georgia; two great-granddaughters, Lillian Blythe Smith and Olivia Tayloe Highsmith; one sister, Glenda Yawn and her husband, Bill, of Willacoochee, Georgia, and two brothers, Ray Futch and his wife, Opal, of Smithville, Mississippi, and Marion 'Lace' Futch and his wife, Nancy, of Willacoochee, Georgia.



The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Tuesday at the home of his daughter and son-in-law ' 2 Musgrove Lane, Savannah.



The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at Christian Fellowship Church at Mud Creek ' 1617 East Highway 64 in Lakeland, Georgia.



The memorial service, with full military honors, will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at Christian Fellowship Church at Mud Creek conducted by Pastor David L. Akins.



In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Savannah - Post Office Box #13190, Savannah, Georgia 31416-0190 or Christian Fellowship Church at Mud Creek ' Post Office Box 101, Willacoochee, Georgia 31650.
